About to buy a '93 EG-6 with JDM B16A2.. what should I be wary of?
1993 honda civic hatchback
130k miles on body
40k on JDM b16a2 (obd1)
AEM intake
Trust exhaust
2001 GS-R leather interior
Eclipse deck
Skunk2 coilovers (1" drop, camber and alignment corrected)
Tokico Blues
Rota slipstreams (with new yokohama avs100s and wheel locks)
VIS grade AA c/f hood
Vision corners
GS-R strut tower bar
Spoon side mirrors
Interior is immaculate, all plastic/carpet/floormats look brand new, paint is fresh, very slight wear on the stripping at the bottom of the windows
What should I look for? How much should I pay?
The guy is asking $5000... He's a manager at my work and I've worked with him for a year and a half, he knows his stuff, it was all done right.
I know a lot of you guys run b16s... this is the JDM one, is it absolutely necessary to run 91 octane? Compression ratio is like 10.4:1 right?

If it's an EG6, it should have a Japanese ECU. If the cars been tuned for a higher octane, I wouldn't run a low octane. Even if it was stock I wouldn't run a lower grade octane.

sounds good for the price. but understand that you are in california i assume and you run the risk of not getting it smog legally at a smog station. if you have a hook up with a smog guy who will look the other way and has the old machines then go for it..
but you still run the risk of getting pulled over and having your hood popped. and you will have to go to the state ref and they wont look the other way..
but either way make sure you can get it smogged legally, if you can then cool.

all dohc vtec b engines need premium, especially JDM motors with higher compression. you can use regular gas, provided that you have the knock sensor hooked up and are running the correct ecu. the timing will be retarded (read less hp) to prevent knocking.
also, make sure you get a smog certificate when you buy the car. you won't be able to legally get a smog check unless the motor has been certified by a smog ref.
by the way, there is no such thing as a JDM b16a2. the b16a2 is a USDM obd2 99-00 si motor.

he described it as a "second gen jdm b16 complete changeover" does that just mean its a Sir-ii engine or what? i thought it was just a b16a2...
