ticking sound HELP!
i have a 99 civic with a d16y8 motor with I/H/E...
my motor ran great until i heard this ticking sound or rattling sound coming from my engine only after 2500 rpm and above. people say its my heat shield but i check that and its not that. i changed my rod bearing for cylinder 4 and it fixed the problem. but a week later its appearing back but not as loud. the last time was because of low oil but i flushed my engine and put mobile 1 and lucas oil stabilizer. does anyone know what it is?? its only when im giving it steady gas after 2500 rpm. thanks

Re: ticking sound HELP!
A rod knock is usually heard when you get off the gas and the rpm's drop. Did you check all the heat shields?
When is the last time you adjusted the lifters?

Re: ticking sound HELP!
yeah i checked the heat shields, but this ticking isnt loud...i cant hear it from inside my car and the only was is to walk out infront my car and listen.
i last got my lifters adjusted last month but that was when i had a bad bearing in cylinder #4. i took it to the shop where he listened with a isocoscope? or something and he said it my lifters over cylinder 4. he said my crank sounds good.
but the noise is only when im gasing it and past like 2500 rpm but when i release the gas it goes away

Re: ticking sound HELP!
Its is most likely your valve lash like Skunk2Joe stated. I will guide you in the right direction

Re: ticking sound HELP!
Depends on how many you can move free like that, there ill be a few that you can and its because the valve is down so there is room for it to do that, if you are unsure in any way to not attempt a valve adjustment. Just have it looked at. Depending on how many miles are on the car, you should have it looked at anyway (if theres a few miles on it) just for piece of mind.

99 sohc VTEC makes rattling noise after it's warmed up (video)
i have a 99 civic ex with a sohc-v motor. it has basic intake, dc headers, exhaust.
*the problem is that ONLY when my car is warmed it would make this raddling sound. its only past 2000 rpm and only when you are accelerating. before it was making this sound till i replaced cyl 4 rod bearing then it went away, but couple weeks later the noise came back after i pounded it for the first time. I didnt spin the bearing and my crank was inspected and good. i took it to the shop and the guy used an isoscope and said it sounds like my valves but i got it done before i replaced my bearing and noise still remained. i know its not rod nock cause its not that loud but is still loud enough to annoy me. any help will be appreciated. *when my motor is COLD the noise wouldnt be there, only when warm.
thanks

Re: 99 sohc VTEC makes rattling noise after it's warmed up (video)
before i have metal shavings in my oil pan so i replaced the bearing on cylinder 4 and put new mobile 1 full synthetic and lucas oil stabilizer. the problem was fixed. the bearing wasnt that bad, and crank was still good. about a few hundred miles later after i pounded it the noise came back. i changed the oil again and found no metal shavings this time. and this morning the weather was cold and it made no noise at all and ran smooth all the way until the motor warmed up.

well if there are no metal shavings, it could be that you damaged your crank pulley. It also makes a noise like that. I've spun my crank pulley 2 times in the last 3 months. It starts to make a noise like that and it gets worse until it totally kills the pin
