99 lx cuts out suddenly
Hi sorry to be that guy that joins and posts. I have been doing a bit of research online for this issue and it seems to be common but my situation is a little different. I just bought the 99 civic 3 days ago, test drove for 20 minutes no issues and even let it run for another half an hour while we were filling out paper work, no problem. Drove it 2.5 hours home, mint. Yesterday i took it for an hour drive and about 30 minutes into it it cut off suddenly. Started back up and went along. Now it is very frequent. It doesnt happen immediately, seems like only when the engine warms up? The engine cuts out without a sputter, no check engine lights but all the dash lights come up once its down. Another thing to point out is that it is an auto, and when going on the highway some times its in and out. I saw a bunch of people saying maybe ICM, I took off the dis cap. And cant get the rotor off. Every vid on you tube shows a screw and i cranked it 360 and there is no screw. appreciate every one's time.

Re: 99 lx cuts out suddenly
The rotor should be secured by a screw.
With the distributor cap and 15A hood ECU fuse removed (to prevent blowing the coil), flick the ignition switch to ON(III) to rotate the rotor and position it where you can see where the screw inserts. This may take a few attempts to get the rotor properly positioned.
Alternatively, remove the entire distributor and then look for the screw.
Once the rotor and inner cover are removed, inspect the rotor and cap and also look for red dust or oil inside the distributor.
Finally, remove the coil and ICM. Ohm test the coil. Take the ICM to AutoZone. They will test it for you free of charge.

Apparently autozones and advanced around here dont know their *** frm their elbow because none of them now how to test the ICM, i did buy a dizzy from a junk yard and took the icm out of it. We will see how that goes. thanks for responses btw. The rotor out of my dizzy pulled off, no screw.

Re: 99 lx cuts out suddenly
Thank you very much again. So i have had my car running for about an hour and a half took a couple test drives and it hasnt died out yet. I cant wash my hands of this as it was night time when i test drove it and took it home. Wondering maybe temp related issue? Tomorrow would be the true test. For now, im happy it seems i changed my ICM and didnt make the issue worse. I will shoot an update tomorrow. Thanks
