Default 99 honda civic dim battery light

i have replaced the alt twice and still have the dim battery light. both of the aternators I replaced tested good. This problem started after I replaced an alt which was overcharging. It was charging 17volts. I have checked fuses, connections. The battery light never came on with the bad overgharging alt. Wandering where to go from here?

Have you checked fuse 15 and the wires on the back of the engine? In particular the yellow and black wire to the alternator should have battery voltage with the key on. It is not necessary to start the engine. Another symptom of fuse 15 problem is that without the battery reference on the yellow and black wire, the voltage from the alternator will vary. This is usually noticeable as the headlights (and all the other lights) flickering when driving at night. With the alternator unplugged, the battery light should stay out. If these things are OK, the alternator is likely bad. You may have to go through quite a few chain-store alternators to get a good one.

i think my dim battery light has been on in the civic for three years. i changed the alternator at the beginning of that three years, never changed the battery, and i do have to jump the car after two to three days of not driving it,

Had the same problem with my 97 Civic. Installed a new (remanufactured) alternator after confirming the original was bad. Battery light was very dim with engine running, despite battery being charged at 14.4V. The replacement alternator tested good! After much research, I went to another parts store (same company) and picked up another remanufactured alternator, installed it, and no more dim battery light! Must have been some leakage current in the voltage regulator or something of that nature.

hope this helps someone...
