99 Hatchback w/ No Tach
As you can see, This is my first post, if its in the wrong section... Sorry
My buddy just bought a 99 Hatchback 5 spd. There's no tach in the cluster... how difficult would it be to pull that cluster and just swap in a cluster from a 99 civic with a tach? _ justin |
Re: 99 Hatchback w/ No Tach (damnthesenames)
Plug and play, very easy to get to, be sure you don't damage the dash bezel when you're getting the old cluster out https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif. Search this site to find a specific how-to on your little project there.

Re: 99 Hatchback w/ No Tach (damnthesenames)
not very hard at all...basically a few screw have to be taken out and the rest is plug and play. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

Re: 99 Hatchback w/ No Tach (damnthesenames)
its very easy to put a cluster in with a tach, either buy an ex or si cluster and it plugs right in. Or you could buy a jdm ctr or sir cluster if you want to be a jdm groovy guy

Re: 99 Hatchback w/ No Tach (Geeky_Gambit)
Awesome! Thanks Guys, Very helpfull.. I'll search for that how-to
Are there any pictures of that JDM dash? Edit: Can't find the how-to.... anyone have the link offhand? |
Re: 99 Hatchback w/ No Tach (damnthesenames)
you don't need a how-to
just look for the screws holding the bezel on, pop it off, and then take out the screws holding the gauge cluster in... come on now.. |
Re: 99 Hatchback w/ No Tach (vsm98civic)

Re: 99 Hatchback w/ No Tach (collateral)
If its that simple, great https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif Thanks for the help guys

really easy nothing but screws...my eg didnt come w/ a tach either...that shit looks so ugly

Re: (egisk09)
Or you can buy a 2 5/8 Autometer tach like I have and put it in a pillar pod for 70 bucks if you don't want to pay 300 for a JDM cluster. It will be more accurate as well, and you don't have to worry about mileage issues.
Just another option. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif |
I would recommend getting an EX gauge cluster. Then you can swap out the speedo portion from the original cluster in to the EX cluster, and the mileage will be correct, and the gauges will be color matched.

Re: 99 Hatchback w/ No Tach (pink hatchy)
Your friend's 99 hatch is a dx, dx dont come with tachs. Go get a ex cluster or maybe even a si cluster...it'll fit nicely. Take the old one out and put the new cluster in...plug n play its easy as that.
