99 DX won't start

99 DX won't start
99 EX won't start
About two days ago my starter would not start the car unless I hit it with a hammer. So yesterday I replaced the starter, I removed the spark routhing wires from the distributer cap so that I could actually turn my wrench.
Once I replaced the the starter I tried starting it, I forgot to put the wires back on to the cap. Once I realized it I hooked them back up to the cap, and attempted to start again. I am 99% sure that I hooked the same wires to the same postions on the cap.
A buddy of mine told me to test the spark wires by disconnecting them from the spark plug and stick a screw driver into end of the wire. I am not sure if I did the right procedures for this test. I touched the screw driver to the metal portion of the wire while someone was cranking it. No sparks at all on all four wires.
Things that I know are good
*Fuel pump - heard it start up when the key is turned
*Starter - just replaced it and it makes the cranking sound
*Battery - is a little drained but I have tried starting while jumping off another car
*No check engine light
So really I am wondering did I do the above test correctly? Would a distributer go out like that? One more note is that the low oil pressure light comes on with the low battery light but goes back out when I attempt to start. Thanks for the help.

Re: 99 DX won't start
low oil/battery light is normal if the engine isn't running with the ignition on . you probably fried your ignitor in the distributor because all the energy from the coil had no where to go so it feeds back into the ignitor some parts stores will test them for you
