99 Coupe Speedo not working
I just finished an auto to manual swap in a 99 coupe I picked up and now the speedometer doesnt work. It still has the stock Y8, and I'm running a chipped P28 with a jumper harness. The sppedometer and cruise worked fine before the swap. Everything went smoothly and the car runs and drives fine. I took the VSS from a friends GSR trans (it worked fine in there) and the cluster from his 97 hatch (worked fine as well), and although his car was wrecked I do believe everything still worked. I tried auto cluster and auto VSS and neither worked. I have checked fuse 15 and it was fine but my cruise control wont work either. Can anyone shed some light on the situation or offer fresh perspective in case I'm overlooking something simple? Is there an specific area I should be checking for a break in the wiring or somewhere I could be losing power? Thanks in advance, Brian.

I delt with this recently...I went through everything your suppose to check. Testing the plug, wires, and back of speedo w/ a voltmeter. Checked that the gear in the trans wasnt broke and would spin. Cleaned out the connection plug. Also tried 3 other speed sensors and still had nothing. Finally swapped in a different connection plug and the speedo worked.

Thank you, this was my next step. The plug on the car seemed to be a tiny bit burnt but I figured it should have been fine after I cleaned all the contact points. I'll try that tonight.

Re: 99 Coupe Speedo not working
I checked all the connections at the speed sensor and all wires tested fine. Continuity between ECU and sensor on signal wire was good and the other 2 wires were 12 volt accessory and gound. Correct me if I'm wrong but although the automatic VSS goes in fine and plugs in fine it will not work, correct?

Correct, the auto vss will not work in a manual trans...
Im still leaning towards the vss plug connector being the culprit.
Heres a link to help with the trouble shoot.... http://techauto.awardspace.com/vss.html

The VSS from the B series trans that I put in after the swap, has a loose pin. Hopefully I can find one tonight. Although, the motor I put in has a slight knock and is coming out tonight anyway FML.

Did you check to the ecu plug of the car or the ecu plug of the jumper? Those jumpers tend to break at the solder n can't tell cause of the heat shrink.
