Re: 99 civic wont start (Silver89crx)
did you replace your coil?
i just had a similar problem, turned out to be my igniter. car would crank and crank but would not turn over for anything! only took me 6 days to figure out what the problem was. i had no spark or no signal to the fuel injectors, and i smelled gas like crazy too. i had also noticed the CEL (check engine light) would not turn off either when i turned the key to the on position. anything sound familar yet?
i in turn replaced my dizzy cap, rotor button, plug wires, plug's, coil, and the main relay. nothing helped me out...... as a last resort i spent $220 at the dealership on a new igniter and that's where my problem lied. car started up rought at first, had to stay on the gas a little and it finally smoothed out. good luck!
i have a 98 civic lx btw. sohc too

I didn't see where you're 100% sure you've got spark? Also, a simple tranny/block ground would keep it from starting as well. If you've got spark, then start with the crank angle sensor...
