Default 99 Civic : Snapped bottom starter bolt

Bottom bolt was siezed, ended up snapping the bolt about 3/4 of the way out at the base.

Can the starter function and last for 15 miles to get to my mechanic to get the old bolt out?

The starter is only needed for the first 2 seconds you crank the car... If the top one is tight making it flush on the transaxle, then I do not see why it wouldn't.

Yea, thats what I thought as well, but its also directly incontact with the flywheel which is going constantly causing alot of vibration. Going to give it a try..

The bedix gear on the starter is only touching the flywheel while you crank the car over, after that the wheel retracts and does not come in contact with the flywheel

Yep, that's what the solenoid does.

Hey, just wanted to give a quick bit of advice. That's a pretty easy bolt to extract yourself rather than pay an arm and a leg for it. Basically you drill a small hole and used a punch that looks like a reallllllly skinny pyramid. Hammer the punch in and use a correct sized socket, wrench, vice grips etc. etc. to unbolt it. Just curious, how much will the mechanic be charging you op?
