'99 Civic Si- Tein Coilover Died, Suggestions on New Setup
Drive a '99 Civic Si, USDM, and it's all stock except for the coilovers, exhaust kit, and the rims I use during the warmer months. Live in Chicago, so it's cold right now.
One of the coilovers blew on my car, the RR. If I had the money, I love the Type Flex setup on there now but being a student and working part time, coming up with that kind of $$ ain't happening. So, I am trying to figure out my options.
First, I was thinking maybe just find a used set and swapping out the RR. But who knows how long those could last, right? So, a new setup would be nice. But I would like something where I can adjust the damper. I tend to ride a stiff setup in the summer because I run some 16" 205/45/16 or 205/50/16 (can't remember off the top of my head right now) Yokohamas wrapped around SSR Type C, which have I believe a +42 offset.
Mind you, this is just a DD so I really don't need to go all out like a Type Flex setup. I don't race it and don't plan on it. I'll build another Civic in due time for that.
Right now, I don't have a budget in mind. I would like to say less than $1000 but can go more if I can offload the good three coilovers for some $$.
Ride quality isn't an issue. Jeez, I ride on the firmest setting on my coilovers in the pothole capital of the midwest, so a stiff setup isn't a negative in my book. I would however like it to be lower than stock so keep that in mind with your suggestions. How far below stock? Not sure. Right now I suspect my setup is about 1-1.5" from the fender with the SSRs mounted. Nice but couldn't make an exit off the highway at 60 without some rubbing. And yes, I would like to run with zero negative camber.
Any help is appreciated.
Although this pic is a few years old, my setup hasn't changed at all.
