Default 99 Civic Si haveing starting probs!

I had been riding around and saw some friends so I pulled up and let the car sit for about 10min and when I got back in to crank it the starter would click and that was it. I checked and the pos cable was loose so I tightened it and it would still only click. SO I had a friend try and jump me off but still the same thing? We push started it and it stared up so I drove home. Got home turned it off and tried to restart it and all it does is click. What would you guys think it is?? Starter??
thanks
Matt

sounds like your cable was loose and wasn't charging the battery very well and it basically died. Then you tightened the battery cable which was all good but a really dead battery won't want to jump start unless you leave the cables on to charge it for a few mins, especially if they didn't have good contact. The drive home wasn't enought to recharge the battery so it would only click when you tried again. Put the battery on a charger and make sure it's ok and can chake a full charge. If not it is damaged and you'll need to replace it.

well I put a good battery in it and still does the same hting. But I can tap the starter and it iwll work for a time or two. How do I know if it is the solenoid or the starter itself?

Should of justed slow charged the battery if it was undercharged. It would get rid of sulfated plates.

But with the starter. Make sure you got good grounds. Also take the some baking soda and water and clean the terminals on the battery. Then take off the positive wire from the starter and clean it off along with the contact on the starter. That usually fixes the problem. Also there is a metal slip that honda uses in the fuse box next to the battery, those like to oxidide, might need to replace it (check it out).

If that doesn't work take the starter to autozone and see if it's working fine. If you are getting low amprege draw then one of your brushes or some winding is messed up so just get a remaf one. If the amprege is high that one of your bushings or bearings is messed up.

yup plus check your wires around your starter to make sure they arent loose and are grounded etc properly. If you tap on it and it wourks, it sounds like the solonoid but check your wires first.

its your starter man. easy way to find out, have afreind tap on the starter while you turn the key over wtih the clutch in it should start, replace the starter. jumping the car should give you 12 volts to the starter so i believe your starter is bad

Most of your parts stores (i.e. Auto Zone, O'Reilly, Advance Auto) will test your starter for free, you'll just have to remove it from the car and take it in there so they can test it.
