99 Civic SI for $3000 should i buy it?? need advice

ive never had a em1 and for what i know they are kinda expencive now a days...i have a friend of mine that has a 99 em1, 100k original miles, was repainted original blue color, he dosent know why it was repaited, and it need a tune up car runs like shit. now the thing is it has a dent in the back quarter panel, hes getting money from insurance and he just dosent want the car anymore, im preety shure that when i register the car under my name it will be salvage. he said the shop said the car needed a new quarter panel because of the gap between quarter panel and trunk, i say it can probably be poped in place again..what do u guys think? heres a pic of the damage and there is a gap between rear quearter panel and trunk..

so he would give it to me for $3000 with stelies and 100k miles and need a tune up runs like shit and will probably need a clutch in the near future (runs perfect but would not be goot to take to the track or anything)...good deal or should i pass??

Best thing you can do here is estimate the cost of the repairs and parts you will have to have done for this thing to be back up to par. Add that to the 3k he wants and if it is more than the book value of the car id say no. At any rate haggle with the guy the first offer is never a final offer if he wants rid of it bad enough he will drop his price. As fot the gap to the trunk lid it looks fine to me, and you may be able to finagle those dents out and use some filler to make the area smooth again.

Duuuuuuude!!!!!!!

I wouldn't even pay $3000 for a mint conditon "SALVAGE " title EM1!!!!

A "clean" title em1 maybe $4000-$5000............

But once u got a "salvage" title its worthless; specially with the rear end like that;on steelies.
Ohhhh, and that mysterious "REPAINT" original color. (Sniff sniff) something smells fishy

it's hard to say. clean title low - no mod em1's pop up all the time between 5-6g's here in oregon, an generally they're legit (no body damage strong motor no grinds etc.) so for that kind of body damage, sketchy repaint, shitty running, and steelies... well i guess it's not bad seeing that dx and ex coupes go for around the same price as the em1... however imo it might be more sensable to find an ex coupe shell and just swap all the em1 parts to it. they pop up w/o motors from time to time. an auto auction would be a great place to find one if some one had stolen an ex for the power options (it happens).

that's what i'd do...

If I could buy it for $2500 id swap everything into my Ek hatch and call it a good deal.

The engine swap alone will run you near 3k , and you have the rear disks, plus interior (if in good shape)

I think the asking price is fair, obviously haggle. have a chassis guy look at it to make sure it's all straight, body damage happens specially in 10 years and 100k miles.

Offer him 2200-2500 for it. Fix it up or take the swap out and swap it into your eg8 and make it all ferio'd out..LoL. And part out the rest of the car so you can get some cash back for the cash you spent.
