99 Civic Sedan Overheating & other problems
I did go through older threads, but didn't seem to have the same problems.
Basically, my civic's overheating. I have to fill it up with coolant again and again when it overheats and it runs me for a good 20+ miles until I have to fill again.
Engine is timed appropriately after previous owner had distributor too retarded and engines timing off the TDC. So those two were fixed.
Attempted to run without a thermo today, but just figured out there wasn't a thermostat to begin with after owning for a month and driving over 600 miles under my ownership.
There is a weird noise, sounds like a weird hmm or "purring" vibration that was suspected by the previous owner to be the power steering, but other people are suspecting it's the water pump, which can also be in contribution to the overheating loss, am I right or wrong?
Haven't done a pressure test yet, or checked hoses; nor have I left it to sit on concrete to check for leaks because my driveway only has grass, but did leave cardboard under it after refilling it and it didn't leak when idled.
Fan does engage when its hot.
And other things:
Not a blown headgasket, no white exhaust, no sludge in oil cap.
A/C needs to be recharged. (Is it easier to recharge A/C DIY?, what are recommended places for getting refrigerant?)
Clutch has a screeching sound when engaged

Do the pressure test to check for leaks.
Check whether the lower radiator hose gets hot when the engine starts to overheat.
Re-install an OEM thermostat, top off the radiator and reservoir with coolant, and then bleed the cooling system.
Have someone drive behind you to check for white smoke in the exhaust.
Check whether the humming noise is the timing belt rubbing the cover or the belt is adjusted too tightly. Also check whether the noise is coming from the alternator.
The screeching clutch is almost surely caused by a bad clutch throw out bearing.
