99 Civic Radiator Fan Not Turning On
Hi all,
1999 Honda Civic LX. The radiator started leaking recently and before replacing it, I wanted to make sure the fan was working properly.
I let the car running yesterday for about 10 minutes mostly idling, but the fan wouldn't turn on.
I tested the following:
1. Wire the fan directly to the battery. Fan worked.
2. Paper-clipped the wire going to the coolant temperature switch. Ignition switch to #2 position. Fan worked.
3. Replaced the coolant temperature switch with a new one from O'Reilly. I let the car run again, but the fan was not turning on.
I took the new switch out and put in the old one for now.
This is the part they gave me, which seems compatible:

What's next? What else could it be?
Thank you.

Re: 99 Civic Radiator Fan Not Turning On
Maybe I used the wrong word, but basically there is a radiator leak where the plastic meets the aluminum. The radiator needs to be replaced, but I don't want to install a new one while the fan isn't working.

Replace your radiator ...check your wiring make sure there is no breaks in it going to the sensor from ecu or to the fan ...if wiring is good replace the ect sensor....brand new ones can ne faulty ive had it happen to me before

Re: 99 Civic Radiator Fan Not Turning On
Does the ECT sensor need to be replaced when there is no coolant in the system?
I should have mentioned that the car is not overheating.
How long does it usually take for the fan to turn on?
