99 Civic LX starting and running problems?
Hey everyone, this is my first time ever posting a thread, so forgive me if I seem noobish or I'm doing something wrong haha.... So anyways I bought my car a year ago and it had started and ran fine since then. But when I first got it I noticed the engine light was on, so I had it diagnosed and they said it was showing that the Top Dead Center (TDC) sensor wasn't working. The mechanic said that since the car does start and run that the TDC sensor could just be starting to go bad, and might get worse over time. But nothing to worry about now. So I just ignored it. The car has always had to crank a little longer than normal to start, but nothing serious, and thats it.
But just recently the past couple of days it has been taking a lot longer to start, and even sputtering at first and died on me once when trying to start it. Also I was driving down the highway and have been feeling it misfire every once in a while. It has a new timing belt, and new spark plugs. So I know those aren't causing it. Could this really be the TDC sensor?? Where is it located??? Any other thoughts on what the problem could be besides the TDC sensor would be appreciated... Thanks.

First things first.....pull the codes from your vehicle.
ON a lx civic....go to the passenger side kick panel....get to the ECU...make a jumper wire. That means...take about 4 inches of wire...strip both sides and bend it into a U. You have to *jump* two connections. Theres a whole write up on here about it....its called pulling your CEL (check engine light)
The light will flash and you count....then take that number...and look up what is the car saying to you. It will explain it all in the other post...like long flash = 10, short = 1, so.....you get something like 67 for example.
The problem with having a check engine light, is although you think its on for TDC sensor....it could now be on for 02 sensors or 10 different things. Once its on though and you get used to it being on...you never know when new things come up that need attention.
Id say first pull your codes......then post up what you're working with... Diagnosing cars from something like...its got a CEL on and it doesnt want to start really is throwing darts.
easier and cheaper to diag when we have something to stand on.
