Default 99 Civic Lx, CEL code 54, which CKF sensor?

Long story short, my wife's 99 Civic Lx, D16Y7/Auto transmission, 100% bone stock with 230K miles on it threw a CEL last night on her way home. I pulled the codes and got a 54 for CKF, reset ecu CEL went away, but came back on during test drive, again code 54 CKF sensor.

So I started looking at oem replacement, but Honda lists 2 different part numbers, by different manufacturers, click the underlined link to view parts diagram and part numbers, OEM CKF sensor, notice 2 part numbers.

Now my question is, is there any way to tell which one I would need to order, aside from disassembling the front of the engine to expose the CKF sensor? Since I'm going in that far, I plan on doing the timing belt and water pump since the timing belt has around 60K miles and the water pump is original.

Thanks for any help guys,

Tim

I think they're just offering you a less expensive alternative to the Denso sensor. My guess is that either would work just fine, but you could e-mail South Bay Honda to verify.

I just figured out that the difference in parts is whether the engine/car was made in North America or Japan, notice the part number ending in A01(America) and J01(Japan).

But I also upon further examination discovered that the CKF wiring harness came out of the harness holder on the timing cover and the alternator belt rubbed through the loom and into one of the wires. So I am just going to repair the damaged wire and loom for now and if the problem persists, then I will go ahead and replace the CKF.

Thanks Ron.
