99 Civic with knocking motor
in buying a 1999 Honda Civic dx with a knocking motor. It was off my friend and I have a bit of knowledge about cars so I bought it. Car runs and drives but the motor knocks on higher Rpms. It was ran without oil. Other than the high Rpm knocks the car runs decent. What should I replace or rebuild? Would it be the block or the head?

If your car is a 5spd than you'll have to swap the intake manifold because it uses a 2 wire iacv. ensure you replace the gasket becuase its going to be fucked up once you pull the manfold off. Make sure you clean it off completely.

I find it the easiest to do the rear main, front main, oil pump, oil pan and valve seals along with the water pump, timing belt and tensioner (if needed) with the motor out of the car. The vtec, dizzy and cam seal all are prettty easy to do once motor is installed if they leak.
This will pretty much be all the major seals and will be a nice clean motor for ages to come.
That's my new philosophy when it comes to pulled motors.
Valve seals can be done with motor in the car and don't typically need replacing unless the guides need replacing so is overkill but hey....
