I have a 1999 honda civic ex, it has 235k miles on it and i use it as my work car, i have been driving it with no muffler for a few years now and now my catalytic converter is clogged and fouling my spark plugs. I'm ready to fix it but not looking to spend 600 dollars on a full system. I know the Ebay exhaust is junk from what i have been reading on the forums, so my question is can i replace just the catalytic converter with a high flow one? But since i need a muffler as well should i just do a cat back system? And can anyone recommend a system that will be a direct bolt on. I have worked on cars for many years, but never a honda, so i'm a newb (squid if you want) when it comes to this car. Thanks

If you've read then you know people tend to recommend the Yonaka catback. Get an OEM cat. You don't have anything under the hood that requires a "hi-flow" converter.

I guess i was looking at the "hi-flow" converter because they are cheaper than the oem. I did not see anything about the Yonaka catback but that is in my price range.

hey grump how much did you pay for the yonaka and where did you buy it from... can you post a pic of it installed...atleast like a view from the back of the car, and dont post a google image i wanna see it on the grumpmeister turbo coupe

do not buy a maganaflow brand cat. I had one for 14k miles and it was completely burned to a crisp. I have 40k miles on my engine and have no problems...it was just a faulty cat.. i have heard of several others with the same problem i had...so i just recommend not buying a magnaflow

I looked up the part number the mechanic gave me and he was talking about the converter on the exhaust manifold, so this kind of opens a new can of worms. I would rather just get a header than buying a used exhaust manifold and taking a chance of the same thing happening.

you have a ex...not a dx/lx. So your convertor is not on the exhaust manifold.

I wish I would have gotten the Yonaka, I got the Apexi WS2 instead. Found out later they're nearly identical but the Yonaka is half the price, fml.

The Yonaka is going on the wife's hatch. Ebay purchase. $239 and FEE SHIPPING! It just got here today. Note to self. When converting over to an EX exhaust from a DX, order the EX exhaust system. Don't know what I was thinking. Must have had a memory lapse.

The part number listed on my quote was 652081 direct fit converter, i pulled the heat shield off of my exhaust manifold and i don't see a converter on it? I'm very new to working on Honda's so please excuse my ignorance this is a huge learning curve for me. I'm assuming my car only has one Catalytic converter?

If it's an EX the converter is supposed to be under the car. Take a pic of the engine bay and under the car please.

You are correct, it is under the car. Yonaka exhaust looks good

got a 99 civic lx that the tailpipe rusted so bad that it came off the cat conv. what would be cheaper, welding it together, buying a new muffler, or just replacing the entire exhaust system?

No one can tell you which one would be cheaper. Call around to some shops and get estimates.

which yonaka is for the hatchbacks?? the one with the extended tip that is extended off the muffler or the one where the tip is directly on the muffler.. the ebay images are misleading.

I actually needed one for an EX because I was going to convert the DX to an EX system. Bought the wrong exhaust. I see you're in Macon. It would be cool if you bought the EX model and we could meet up and swap exhaust systems.

Actually all I need is the resonator section. Don't really want to have to hack this brand new one up to install the header and cat. Anyone know where I can get a nice shiney new resonator section for an EX? I'm looking but pics are misleading and sellers seem to be stupid and not know what they have ion inventory.
