99 civic DX swap questions
I have a few quick ?'s I was hoping some of you might be able to help me out on.
I just recently picked up a 99 civic dx and I also have a B16A w/a cable trans sitting in my garage that I had in my last CRX. From what I have been researching is that I would have to do the following to put this setup in my car.
1- Wiring would have to be done for the new engine
2- A hydro to cable kit would have to be installed
3- Change injectors and plugs for the injectors
4- New ECU for obd1 or obd2 ?
5- Change distrubtor to Obd1 or obd2 model
If anyone has done this could you please provide me with a litle bit of insight as to what is involved. And like I said before if I didnt already have the engine and trans I would just go out and buy the a newer engine/trans.

you cant use the OBD2 ecu unless you use an OBD2 B16 oil pump assembly with crank fluctuation sensor. The OBD2 ecu will have a check engine light if you dont have that sensor plugged in. It is behind the T-BELT housing by the alternator.
Not sure if you have emissions where you live. You wont pass emissions unless you get the OBD2 crank fluctuation sensor setup and an OBD2 computer. In killafornia, I think there's a totally different deal where you have to prove the motor is 99 or newer to pass or soemething...not totally familiar.
You should use an OBD1 ecu if the Crank fluctuation sensor is not a big concern to you (i.e the car never has to pass emissions).
Just wire everything for OBD1 and use the distributor for obd1 or wire it for OBD1.

ok so I would want to go obd1 then. Now if I decide to use the cable trans what do I have to buy to make it work since the car has a hydro trans now.

a cable to hydro adapter would be the cheaper way to go.
a hydro B16 trans would be the best way to go.
You will need OBD1 injectors if you wanna go OBD1 ECU. OBD2 injectors for OBD2 ecu.
