99 civic d16y8 (automatic)
Was wondering how I could give this car some horse power? Would prefer to do it all motor but wouldn't mind a turbo either. Car only has 76k. So I want do wantever is going to be the easiest on the tranny. Any suggestions and ideas will be greatly appreciated!

This Link to another HT post sums up some of the best results I've seen without major work or a turbo install.
If you don't want to read it, it says Edelbrock Performer X Intake Manifold, AEM V2 Cold Air intake, DC 4-2-1 Exhaust Manifold, and 2.5" Cat-back Exhaust. (in general).
Unfortunately the AEM V2 CAI doesn't fit the Automatic as far as I am aware so a custom CAI or just a Short Ram Intake would be best (plus the AEM V2 is very expensive)
I'm not sure how much power the automatic transmission can handle either so a turbo with too much output probably wouldn't be a good idea... Plus it is a lot of money.
The Edelbrock IM is about $300 as is the DC header (new prices)
The 2.5" Exhaust is probably best for power and high rpm applications but since you are driving an automatic I guess it isn't as easy to control your rpm... I also believe the 2.5" exhaust would work best with this guys setup and not necessarily one with lower flow capabilities.. In which case nothing larger than 2.25" (~60mm) should be exceeded (in general).
Good luck!

Re: 99 civic d16y8 (automatic)
well I've read just different pistons(pm7) and a cam(crower stage3) can get me up to 170 horse I've had a 2.25 cat back exhaust for quite a long time now and i did notice a difference when i put that on. I still need to buy headers for it but thats all little stuff. i have a short ram as well. but in order to create real horesepower its gonna take a little work. im just wondering the best and safest route for my car since it has the automatic tranny.

Theres not really anything you can do, if you do a high compression N/A build or boost it, it should be tuned, and you can't with that automatic transmission. Your best bet is to swap in a manual and go from there.
