Default 99 b16a2 into a 96 EX coupe?????

Whats Up,

I did a bunch of searching and didn't find a definate answer to the question i have.........seems like an easy answer to me but just want to make sure......Im getting a wrecked 99Si.......my question is Do i have to modify any wiring if I just take out the complete SI wiring harness through the firewall to the ECU? Nothing I found really addresses using the complete SI harness, only modifying an EX harness and usually dealing with B18c's.........Also is there any problems I'll run into with this swap?.......All the other cars ive dealt i swapped b18b's into, so dealing with wiring and vtec is all new to me..........Also can i put the SI's complete AC system onto my 96EX, and why would i need a del sol bracket for AC to work?

Thanks to all for the help in advance,
Tommy

I dont' believe that you will need to do any wiring modifications considering both the wiring harness and the ecu will be for obd2 and that's what you already have.

just use your ex harness, the si harness will not work. everyting should plug up to the motor except for the sensor by the crank pulley. simply swap the plugs then color match the two wires and leave out the ground wire. extend o2 sensor. extend others if you have to. but thats pretty much it.

The only wiring modification you will need to do is to extend the primary O2 and put the d16 ckf plug on the b16. Other than that, it is 100% plug in and go. Every wire the b16a2 has, the d16y8 has as well. You use the stock EX harness. You only need the Del Sol bracket if you want to use the stock compressor and I'm pretty sure the Si A/C system is the same as the EX A/C system.

If you need any more help with this swap, IM me.

So I should just use the EX harness and not bother with the SI harness at all?............why wouldn't just using the complete SI harness and not hassling with extending wires work?..........thanks for all the help just a little confused.

um i'm not sure on this but if you can get the whole harness like all the ay up to the ecu ( obd2 harsnnes's don't have a plug like aobd1?) you should be able to just use the si harness with out and issues. also since they are bother the same obd with er harness will work

uhhh, y would the si harness not work?????

Get the si harness, its just plug and play from there. Everything should work with no modifications. As for the a/c bracket...you could use the bracket off tthe si if u can get it.

Nope....the Si harness will not work in a 96 Civic. I mean, if you like rewiring everything including the interior harness, then go ahead and use a 99-00 Si harness. If you want to do it the best way and the easiest way, then you need to use a 96-98 EX harness. 96-98 and 99-00 are not interchangable.

Please explain to me what u will need to rewire. The wiring harness goes all the way in the car to the ecu. ARe you talking about the harness that connects on the ddriver side firewall area...i thougght that was plug and play.

the 96-98 uses different ecu plugs than the 99-00 and the interior harness (Green plug) is pinned differently. Try to plug a 99 Si Ecu into any 96-98 EX harness, you'll see what I mean. I used a 97 Del Sol VTEC ECU with my 96 EX.

i know that they are different. Just like the 96-99 integs are different than 99-00 si's. Hes gonna be using a 99si ecu so y in the hell should he use his ex harness???

I would just prefer not to hack up any wiring harnesses if I don't have to. If you want to use the Si harness, your going to hack it up and the interior harness. It will be a MAJOR pain in the *** and result in a huge mess. If you use the EX harness, you sell the Si harness and ECU. There, you have $200 to either go obd1 or you can easily find a 96-98 CTR/ITR/DS VTEC ecu for under $200 and it's plug and play, you only have to extend the primary o2 and take the D16y8 CKF plug and put it onto the B16a2. Or if you want, they make a convertor from obd2a so you can plug in a obd2b ecu. If you want to do that, then that is another option.

its amazing how much bad info is out there....i had teh same prob, even bought a si harnes...only to realize as the last guy said...that it doesnt work...even had to take the motor mostthe way back out to put my ex harness back on!!! like he said, go obd 1, or you can keep the si ecu, just need an adapter harness for the obd2.2 to obd2 conversion..jdmhondaparts has them...in my case i sold the si ecu, abd bout a itr ecu from a 97
