hey, i was wondering if this happened to anyone else but i've had the 99-00 front end conversion for about a year now and i always have a gap between my fenders and bumper.

here's pictures:

i can't get them to line up flush like the rest of you guys and i don't know why but it's really hard to get it to look good. it's like something's in the way. did you guys mess with the bumper support any? would that help? i saw one writeup that said to shave off the ends of your bumper support like this

i don't know if that would help though, any ideas? i want it to line up flush so my car looks clean

Ok for everyone wondering about this conversion from 96-98 to a 99-00
there are a few ground rules to follow. Hopefully for all of you planning on going through with this convo will do it correctly the first time so problems dont arise later on halfway through doing the conversion.

1. You guys are doing a CONVERSION meaning you cant mix match year parts you CANNOT use ANY 96-98 front end parts in the 99-00 conversion
EXCEPT front radiator support....

Why?
a. Headlights were reduced in size to and slope is raked way more starting to slope down much earlier then the previous year
b. Not noticable to many headlights position is slighty set back toward the cabin of the vehicle and doesnt bulge out like the 96-98
c. Since headlights shape was changed and size was reduced surrounding parts (A.K.A Bumper cover, Fenders, Hood) Needed to be slightyly modified modified to create the clean look required so all parts of the 98-00 are different
d. Your grille for a 96-98 is to small it was enlarged to come almost completely to the headlight unlike the previos model where it fell short of the headlight about an 1.5" short

2. I recommend that you use authentic OEM replacement parts to ensure a proper stock looking fitment. Non OEM replacement parts usually end up having some sort of defect in them causing the end result to have impropr gapping along meeting edges of eterior parts.

3. Fitment issues will occur almost indeffinitly all over but can usually be handled and fixed easily using some thinking and a little effort

For all of you having the ugly oversized gap between the bumper cover and your fenders the problem is the plastic grommet and screw it doest work well for a conversion most of the time to eliminate the gap is as simple as taking out the plastic screw grommet and screw itself and replacing it with a nut and bolt and placing a small enough washer between the brace and bumper to keep a gap for slight movement that occurs during everyday driving. But remeber find the smallest radius washer sho that it doesnt stick out of your car.

and for all of you thinking of cutting the top tabs on your bumper DONT check out the thread I posted it shows you how to keep the top bumper braces near the cooling plate useable to brace your bumper and grill.

I will be doing my 3rd conversion in about a week or so and ill take pics of every step needed to be made to get it done and Ill post em here so you can go by the three of the DIY on this thread to make it easeir to bit and peice together what you whant to do for your conversion.

I wrote my own short version of a howto

Frontconversion Civic 96-98 to 99-00

What's needed:
- 99-00 hood
- 99-00 headlight units
- 99-00 front side fenders
- 99-00 grille
- 99-00 front bumper

For the people who try to use 99-00 bumper only... ITS NOT GONNA WORK. YOU NEED ALL FRONT PARTS. I made the following pic just to let those guys see the fitment difference with a 96-98 fender and a 99-00 frontbumper. Picture says it all!!!!!

Well, lets start the frontconversion when you have all parts as listed above.

1. Unbolt the 96-98 parts in following order: frontbumper & grille --> headlights --> fenders --> hood
2. Bolt on the 99-00 parts: hood --> fenders --> headlights
3. the grille is mounted on your bumper and you have to use the upper holes on your grille to

hold up your bumper and grille (in my case)

the frontbumper is the only fitment issue

see these pics

you have to cut/dremel a small piece of the bumper

then you can slip the bumper right in its place

unfortunately the holes are differents so you cant bolt these up! As i described above you

have to use your grille which is mounted on your bumper and use the upper holes on your

grille to hold up your bumper and grille (in my case)

Thats pretty much it.
It took me 5,5 hours to do on the street hahahhaha
This is the endresult

Hope you can use this information to do your own conversion.

Ok, am I pretty much boned here? I can't figure out where exactly I went wrong here (assuming this isnt a manufacturer defect), but this just doesnt add up.

Things seemed to be off to a good start.. I got the hood and fenders to line up flush without a problem, then I got the bumper on with just a small space between the fender, and I was fine with that..

I instead of dremeling, I bent down the rad support to where it doesnt touch the bumper

Then I try to snap the grill in, and problems arise.

as you can see, i'm having a really hard time getting the grill lined up with the support holes. You can also see in one of the photos the the grill wont even line up with the bumper, it seems like i would have to bend the grill in order to do so. So im assuming there seems to be some kind of defect in the grill or the bumper. Anyone want to take a crack at this?

Has anyone done this swap including changing out the radiator support? Is the trimming of the upper bumper mounts on the radiator support the only difference in the radiator supports? I'm asking because I want it to look factory, even under the hood. Pics under the hood before and after might be good as well.

I would trade my 99-00 front for the Sir front end + lip.. but I would have to also have the rear done as well (bumper, tails)..

Its just a preference thing I guess

as for saggy bumpers, everyone i know that has an ek has this problem....i finally figured it out, i fkin used zip ties to mount the bumper to the fenders, and it looks good again.

except i die a little inside everytime i remember that my bumper is held on my zip ties.

kjmagnum is right ... the only thing you have to do is cut the front 2 tabs where the bumper hooks up because it is too wide for the 99-00 bumper, you dont have to cut the bumper itself at all. ALSO, you will have to dremel or drill 2 new holes for the 99-00 bumper to clip onto your radiator support ... thats it. I was stumped for a second too ... helps! Also, stick to Honda OEM parts ... well I did anyway and I couldn't be happier! Here are some pictures of the finished product, hope this helps!

Started with this god awful front end when I bought my EK …

Lined up perfect 

And here it is after I painted it the other day …
