Default Transmission: How screwed am I?

I decided that today would be a good day to change the transmission fluid on my 93 Del Sol since I had no idea when the previous owner had done it.. Once I got down there though I noticed something that really freaked me out.

Now it doesn't take a genius to figure out something is missing there. The car runs great and I haven't really had any transmission issues I can think of. How bad is this? I know I would need to put it on but is the whole transmission screwed?

it's just a dust cover I've had mine off with no issues, not on my dd tho just find a new one and bolt it up. gives me a good idea if the RMS is leaking thus I've left it off on my integra but if your car see's deep snow etc I'd want it on.

Does it mean that fluid is all empty though? Is it as simple as bolting on? I don't have to remove anything?

The car will live. It won't leak unless your seals are bad. The part your missing is the flywheel inspection cover. Check a local scrapyard or poke around online for one they should be cheap. If you daily the car you def wanna put it on there because it will prevent water, rocks, road debris, etc. from getting into the clutch assembly. Its mostly preventative.

You ... may want to find your intense oil leak though, holy crap.

Also FYI. The inspection plate uses the second to last oil pan bolts on the front and back. If I recall correctly, it's 5 or 6 bolt total, you need the three or four outer larger bolts with the plate and just reuse the two bolts on the oil pan. Don't over torque them though, if I recall it's 7 ft-lbs for the oil pan bolts. ( I did mine to 10 being that's the lowest setting I could get. ), and the larger bolts I think are either 12 or 14 ft-lbs. Maybe 17... I don't remember off hand. It's the oil pan bolts you have to be concerned with though more than anything.

Thanks a lot for the info. I'm gonna look around to find one of those as soon as it gets a bit warmer.

They do, '96 - '00 are a little different and don't use the oil pan studs.

Brand new these are less than $19 from majestic Honda, expect to pay around $27 at your local Honda dealer. Part number: 21350-PR1-030

Sorry to bring this up again but I am buying a whole bunch of stuff from majestic and I had a question. I'm not sure this is the original tranny. Is it interchangeable with other transmissions?

Very minor correction - all D series transmissions up to 2000 are the same externally. An 01-04 (05?) transmission and parts won't quite work.
