ok, 99 civic came into the shop, and its not running right, very laggy, doesnt want to idle(sounds like its missing), lacking power. sounds like a timing issue

jist of stuff on the car:
b16
skunk2 stage 1 cams
oem plugs (look great)
oem wires
spoon cam gears(-2 on exhaust, +2 on intake side)
dist was turned to the back all the way (i believe retarted?)
compression is 190-205
aem fuel rail
fuel pressure at idle is 42-44psi
all injectors are clicking so i believe they are working
have spark at all cyl's

plugs, wires, fuel filter all replaced recently

please help, i have no idea where to start, im gonna set both cams back to 0 and see if that helps

the dizzy was way retarded. probably because of this problem. how about o2 sensor? that need to be replaced or no? but start with the cam gears and see whats what. iacv maybe? is it running lean or rich?

this is the original poster, it wont let me log out of skunkU at work, bt anyways. yes firing order is right, centered dizzy, 0'd cam gears. i dont think its iac case it doesnt surge, jst sounds like its missing. not sre about 02 sensor. there is no check light at all(light is working).

after fixing the dizzy and cam gears kinda seemed like it helped a bit, now when you go to give it gas it kinda stalls, and will then pick itself up. but if idle long enough will eventually die. fuel pressure holds after i turn it off so i dont think the regulators bad. but you can smell raw gas when the cars running if that helps at all. seems to me that its leanin out, but hell what do i know

thought maybe becauuse of the cams and the unknown installer, he may have left them at stock valve lash and may have bent a valve, just trying to figure it out before tearing it apart. but if i remember right when i did the compression check it should have told me that somethin was up in there

i guess you already checked the cam timing to the crank. i think the thing just needs to be tuned.

yeah the valve lash could be wrong. check the valve adjustment, if it wasn't readjusted with a bigger lift then the valves may not be closing fully, and are likely burnt.

we had an gsr in our shop that was kicking alot of mechanics butts. it was round and round at other shops in town. after the entire shop going over and over it for weeks, we found that the lost motion units on the vtec rockers were bad and the synchro pins in the rockers had been reassembled improperly. basicly the valves were stuck in vtec while the computer was running normal specs. the car ran great in vtec range but when you let the tach drop it would run like crap.

worked on a car that had those symptoms.. turned out the map and tps connectors were switched.. check them.

hmm both interesting, i will look into that when i get to work on wed, any other ideas would be appreciated, thanks guys
