Default 99-00 Civic Si 9lb. flywheel and clutch

I installed a 9.5lb lightened chromoly flywheel on my stock 99 si (stock motor). I replaced the clutch to an exedy oem replacement clutch.

I waited on the break in period until the 1k mile mark.

I feel as if my clutch I had before was faster than what I have right now.

Basically, the car feels slow, there is like no torque in low end RPMs, and when I'm in high end RPMs it feels like if its climbing too slow.

I've been reading that a lightened flywheel would make my RPMs climb like crazy because of the lightened poundage on the drivetrain.

I'm wondering if I need a heavier clutch something like a 6 puck, sprung 1900 lb.?

or should i just go back to a stock a flywheel.?

what do you guys think?

oh its not completely stock, it has a cold air intake, full exhaust, headers,

I dunno sometimes our minds deceive us but there is no real explanation for your car being "slower" than it was before. I installed an ACT stage 2 clutch (don't recommend) and an ACT streetlite flywheel and noticed a big difference. The difference isn't like fast and the furious "I'm hittin NOS Yo" type stuff but it was noticeable. It is the most noticeable to me just revving at a dead stop the tach needle just goes up and down much faster. There might be something else wrong with your car...

the reason i say that its slower is because i raced my friend back when my clutch was slipping and i beat him by 2 cars

now hes right there with me!

That is not necessarily a good measure of performance... There are a lot of things that can change especially when racing on the street... It requires a bit more finesse with the lightened flywheel since the revs drop so quickly. Also your new clutch might not grip as well as the OEM clutch. When I replaced the clutch in my Tercel with an "OEM Replacement" it didn't grip as well as the old one did when it was new...

so im assuming that a heavier clutch (performance) would limit my slip and would boost my speed?

Perhaps, but I am just speculating that as a possibility of why you think the car is slower... The engine might be getting worn out, or a number of other things could be wrong with to car to cause decreased performance. Maybe your car needs to be seafoamed or something like that... It was just something I noticed while replacing the clutch in my Tercel, I didn't really care though because I wasn't racing that car...

I have a lightened flywheel as well as an exedy oem replacement clutch on my SI and it works great. Have not experienced what you say.

unless you have a dyno or something this the best known to me to test out your car.

your v-tec not working? when i change clutch this happened to me too. i place my v-tec plug to the ect sensor. they both are the same size and will fit onto each other.

im running the ACT Streetlite (12 pound) flywheel with exedy stage 2 on my boosted GSR and its holds strong and revs quick. Yes i did drive it with this setup before it was boosted and loved the added grip and response.
