the 99-00 grill doesnt go in deep enough to look like an si grill even if you do it.
i say look for an actual si grill, i see them on craigslist for around $50 complete all the time

this is gonna be your best bet. there is no diy on a 99-00 grill. although you can order an si look alike off of ebay for dirt cheap then get it color matched to your car.

I know this is old but I browsed all day yesterday looking for info. I feel your pain. I did however cut the inside of my grill out. I didn't fit mesh in behind it yet.. but IMO I'm proud of my work. It's not exactly an SI grill but it's 1 of a kind. So it's worth more to me

You can see what I cut out, I used a small amount of bondo on each end, bc cutting the grill out makes 2 quarter size holes. Pics kinda suck but It's raining out, I used a hacksaw blade and went slow and steady. Like I said I haven't put mesh behind the grill yet, being a college student I'm on a budget. I'll post that next weekend perhaps.

After the time/money/effort you'd have a lot less headache finding one locally.
car-part.com, find some si's and ask around. I got my Si grill for $50 shipped, got it painted by my body shop guy for $40, well worth it.

To each there own, I only have time in this, about 2 hours if that prolly. All my resources were leftover from other projects so It's not like I had to buy anything. Just know it can be done for you DYI guys. It's a daily so perfection is far ( rock chips and crack on hood)

car-part.com is designed for scrapyards and businesses. expect to get a different price then whats listed on car-part.com. the prices listed come from a system that only scrapyards use, what listed is wholesale price (what they will sell it to another scrap yard) typically public prices are more.

Why don't the scrapyards organize themselves and password protect the website with a small monthly fee?
It's not for businesses, it's for everyone. It's a public website.
In my experience, ordering springs, two grills, three steering wheels, one si wheel, and a front sway bar in the last year or so I've always gotten the advertised price on the website.
