99-00 Civic horizontal headlight adjustment gear problems
I recently bought brand new genuine Honda headlights. One of them was so far out of adjustment that I couldn't screw my LED bulb assembly into place, but the second headlight was fine. Vertical adjustment is easy, because you can just use a socket on the back. The horizontal can only be adjusted with a screwdriver. (See attached picture.) The screwdriver turns the gear, but the plastic gears themselves don't mesh up properly. The larger gear that's supposed to spin is called the "horizontal indicator gear" in my Helms manual. I can turn that gear by hand, and the tips of the gear just grind against the smaller one. I ended up returning that headlight and got another one, brand new in a sealed box. Today I had the exact same problem with this replacement headlight. It's WAY out of adjustment and the horizontal adjustment gears also don't mesh properly. I'm wondering if there's a bad batch of these, or if they were possibly jolted in shipping? Has anyone else run into this problem?
