98 AT trouble

98 AT trouble
So, i recently bought a 1998 civic that i enjoy. i wanted the MT but the 98 was 42000miles and i talked the dealership down to 7200 so i took it. A few weeks after i had it, the auto transmission seemed to have a difficult time changing gears. it would rev high and kinda a jerky (not too bad, bad enough for me to notice, but not bad enough for a passenger to notice) and when i took my foot off the gas, it felt as if i had the emergency brake on, the car didn't seem to coast like it should. I checked the AT fluid, and topped it off, and still the problem is around...If anyone has had this problem (or any problem w/ an AT on a similar year) any advice would be appericated. thanks

Re: 98 AT trouble (civicSIGEP)
I'm not a transmission expert, but it sounds like things are slipping...as in, the car may have been driven pretty hard before. As for the coasting, I have no idea. Nice this is that manual transmissions are extremely cheap and easy to swap in...so if your AT does bite it, just upgrade for cheap.

Re: 98 AT trouble (Regal)
Im having the same problem with my moms 95 sedan, though nobody could give me some solid info. I was thinking it might have something to do with the computer system itself. Im taking her car in today for a diagnostics test @ honda.
Does the tranny shift later than normal autos youve driven?

Re: 98 AT trouble (HBADGE)
Sounds like the dealership sold you a POS. They might have swapped out the transmission from another car, see if the VIN's match. Best of luck. But with only 47000 miles, that tranny should be like new.
