Default 98 Honda Civic CX hatchback too much to fix?

I took my civic in to the dealership because of idling problems. it has 102,000 miles on it. never been modified in anyway. because of the mileage they told me its due for the timing belt/water pump change. That's $590. The idling problem turns out to be the idle control valve which they'll replace for $270. And because of the mileage, the tuneup will be for $399.

Intead of replacing all of this, if I were to sell it so I can get a newer civic how much would I expect to get. Like I said it has 102,000 miles, clean title never been in an accident, its silver and 5 speed.

kbb.com says almost $4,000, that's guessing on options and stuff.

Do you do oil changes? After reading your post I figured you would just buy a new motor instead.

Why would you buy a new car instead of fixing it? $10000+ is greater than roughly $1000. You're going to spend more than it costs to fix it on a new car, and if you fix it, your car will *probably* be good for a pretty long time. Fix it!

After asking around, I found a good mechanic and he replaced the timing belt and waterpump. and cleaned out the valve. runs great now. i might still sell it because I want a newer civic
