I installed a new flywheel on a d16y8. While doing so I rotated the crank. When I finished, I just rotated the crank pulley counterclockwise to get the cam gear in the right position, with the word up in the 12'o clock position. Since I didn't touch any aspect of the timing belt, other than rotating it, should I leave it as is or consult a mechanic.

I haven't tried to start the engine because I missing components.

You're fine, Simply rotating it over won't affect the timing.

Yep. If you haven't touched the distributor or timing belt, you aren't changing the timing at all.

I received the long block from a friend without a distributor. I used my distributor when I swapped out the engine. I know the engine is on "time" because I tested it while on the car and took it out myself.
Should I look up write-ups for the distributor issue?

Distributor issue? What distributor issue? You just need to buy/borrow/rent a timing light and set ignition timing.

Once you get the car running set the ignition timing with a timing light.
