98 civic with p0420 code
My 98 civic is showing up with a p0420 code. I erased the code and now am waiting to see if it lights up again. If it does what could probably be the problem. I know it deals with the catalyst, but could it be a front o2 sensor or rear one or the cat converter itself. I don't notice any power lose.
Again its a 98 civic with just under 100k. and if anyone knows where i can buy cheaper parts online rather spending an arm and leg honda that would be awesome. I have an OBX high flow cat converter that i can put on, should i?

Re: 98 civic with p0420 code (chinox2001)
po420 is catalyst efficiency and theres a 85% chance thats what you need. However, if you have access to a scan tool, you can check the voltage between b1s1 and b1s2 and if the voltage is alternating (high to low) its a bad converter. If the voltage between the two mimics each other (high to low, or random) then theres a good chance that its an o2 sensor. most muffler shops can do an obd2 converter, here where i work we do them for $250 installed, unless its a special order. Most of the hondas can get away with a universal cat, just have to make sure that the brick is close to the same length, and the distance between the two o2 sensors stays the same. Really its not that hard.

Re: 98 civic with p0420 code
I have a similar problem i got a P0420 code (bank1), I changed my bank 1 o2 sensor (aftermarket denso from autozone) and erased the code, 2 months later check engine light turned back on and now I feel a slight tug on reverse, in my case would it be the o2 sensor again?
