98 Civic LX - misfire CEL codes, tune up, and now no spark
I have a 98 Honda Civic Lx and Im Pulling the P1399 code, along with P0301 P0302 P0303 and P0304 which are misfires for each of my four cylinders. Also pulling a P0300 which indicates a random misfire like the P1399. As well as a P0135: Air/Fuel senor 1 heater system malfunction.
For the P1399 it came up as "Blocked EGR passage, or Valve Clearance out of range." I was told the car might not have an EGR passage. I did some research and came up with a few solutions.. But i'm not a Mechanic..
I'll be checking the H02S/AF ratio sensor over the weekend and taking it from there. Maybe replace spark plugs/plug wires if needed as well. I'm hoping i wont need to do a valve adjustment. I'm not Honda Savvy so please, Any input would be appreciated.

Your engine does not have an EGR system.
Do an ignition system tune up and replace the fuel filter. Then go from there.
Reset the ECU to see whether the O2 sensor and misfire codes return.

Re: 98 Civic LX - misfire CEL codes
So after my tune up i allowed the car to idle for a little over five minutes and it stalls?
I was talking to a friend who helped with the tune'age(Spark plugs/wires, distributor cap/rotor, and the fuel pump), and i was getting ready to leave his house when all of a sudden it stalls and wouldn't turn over(Getting both fuel/fire).
After going over the tune up I tried to start it and there was a pop sound, then very little smoke rose near the battery/main fuse area, as if it sparked and it cut all power.
20 minutes later the dash lights came back on, after checking fuses/connection to battery i had the same friend watch under the hood for more surprises while i turned it over.
He caught a glimpse of a spark but couldn't locate the source. After the spark the car wont even turn over, the dash lights wont come on, and the annoying car door beeping is no longer beeping while door is open.
We read online the ignitions for this year/model were recalled for faulty ignition switches(Thank you Mundy5) with similar problems i'm just hoping its not the ignition..
Idk though, thinking either icm and/or coils?..
I would try and pull more codes but I doubt the dash lights will turn on in the morning, or even the ecu will be reset by then.
By the way the battery is good.

Re: 98 Civic LX - misfire CEL codes
Fuses are good. Going to try codes again In a couple of days, Thinking of getting a new coil. I fixed the negative terminal ground because it was weak. Dash lights are working again, now not getting spark.

Fuse #9 checked out.
It was the ignition coil, wasn't givin spark, replaced it and engine fired right up.
Thanks for the troubleshoot input Boss!

I guess I shall return to the codes in about a week when the ecu has time to reset.
I'll let you know what the codes are. By the way, while your heater is on is it normal to hear a minor taping/clicking(such as lightly pressing down on a space-bar key)? Its not very noticable at all. I was thinking an 02 sensor... :/

You may need to bleed the cooling system. Or if it's coming from the blower motor, then replace it. My motor was ticking and after replacing it, it's quiet again.
