98 civic EX - power loss, bogging and stalling
 

I have a 1998 civic EX with 180k on it, recently the car will start up just fine and drive just fine but after a few minutes of driving or idling the car will loose power and start to bog out and stall, when it stalls out it will usually start up for a second and then die immediately, and then wont start after that. It Will crank strong but no start. The longer I let it sit the longer it will run apon start up.
I have no CEL, the fuel pump is good, new fuel filter, main relay good, new spark plugs and wires, distributor rotor is good, MAP sensor is good, sensor on the intake is good.
What should I look at??

When is the last time you had a valve adjustment done? Sounds like that may help you.

Probably never I just got the car a couple weeks ago, where can I find out how to do that?

Don't even bother doing it yourself unless you have a recently calibrated torque wrench and some knowledge of feeler gauges.

Also test the coil, it is in the stickies.

Since when do you need a torque wrench to do a valve adjustment?

Unless you mean tightening the valve cover bolts?

The lock nut on the adjustment screw cannot be torqued over 15ft/lbs. The rocker arms are aluminum. Pretty much anytime you are working in the heads you need to be using a torque wrench.

Not necessarily, as long as your not the strongest man in the world and over tighten to break the you'll be fine. But you will need a special home made socket with flat head inside of it and some knowledge on how to do a valve adjustment because if done wrong can and will damage your motor.

Typically just an open wrench and an flat head screw driver.

Break the the nut, adjust the screw for the adjustment and tighten the nut, put nice and snug and you will be fine.

You forgot the part where each piston gets adjusted. So turning the crank then adjusting to each piston. Trust me you don't your car to sound like those funny teeth you wind and just chatter.

check the recall for the ignition switch...I had similar issues and was stumped, looked up recalls and took it to Honda and never had a problem after....

hey guys i have a 1993 Honda Civic Del-Sol with a d15b7. When i first start the car i must keep tapping the gas or it will stall. Once the engine heats up, it NORMALLY runs fine, but still can barely pull a hill. After driving it for a little bit the check engine light will just randomly come on and the car goes into a defense-like state. As soon as it comes on the car loses power. The car sounds like it's choking or something and it backfires. I think it is some kind of sensor because like i said it will run perfectly fine, then all of a sudden run terrible. I have new plugs and wires in it, fuel filter, map sensor, the head has been pressure checked and resurfaced. Please let me know ANY ideas.

How do I test to see if the ignition switch is bad?

Could also be a throttle body issue too but not 100% sure

If you do not test and rule things out this post is useless.

Test the coil like a I said and then go from there, the test is in the stickies.
