Default 98 Civic EX motor Issue

OK, so the car that my girl bought we are having a couple issues with. For some reason the d16y8 motor w/ intake doesnt have that pickup or speed that it should have. There is a ticking sound which is loud when you are pressing down on the accelator and you are driving beside a car or something. I'm pretty sure it is the fuel injector but is there a way to be certain? Also, it seems like after 6k RPM the car almost struggles to get up to redline and especially after 2nd gear. Anyone give me an idea where to start?????? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated...

If you can hear a ticking while you are driving, it will not ba fuel injector. they are not loud enough, especially if you are in the driver's seat.
How many miles on it? It might be due for a valve adjustment.

I was researching on the internet and most of what i read was that when the injectors get old or worn out it will start to tick... but valve adjustments have to be done at the dealer, correct? How much do those usually run for? I might have to do that since the last owner was a douche when it came to the car. The car is currently @ 164,102. The motor is strong there is no doubt about it in my head. Its just that sound is pissing me off!!!!

Well, if you got the $$$ and time, sure take it to a dealer (or any private shop), and get them to do it.
Not sure what it costs, maybe around 1.5 hrs for a high estimate. also be prepared to purchase a new valve cover gasket in case they wreck the old one coming off.
Or, if you have any mechanical know-how at all, it's not a hard thing to do. all you'd need was some basic tools, and some feeler guages to complete this.
If a fuel injector is malfuctioning that bad, you would almost certainly have a miss or really rough operation.
so let me get this straight. The motor runs smooth, but lacks power and ticks loudly under load?
any other problems, CEL light on, or terribly fuel mileage, or smoking??? anything else going on with the car?

Yeah I think i will call to my local dealer and see how much it would be to do a valve adjustment.

It's really weird. The motor idles fine, drives fine besides that annoying loud ticking sound, when you push down on the accelerator it goes but seems like its struggling after 6k rpm, no check engine lights at all. I did notice i put a half tank in the car moved it about 20 miles and drove it around the block maybe 3 times, the next day the car was sitting at a quarter tank. But i didnt think too much into it. No smoking that i can see.

Alright... Tonigh my girl comes over and when shes pullin up the car has a idle problem... You can hear it go up and down and when she goes the car jerks a little and then moves. She said she pulled up to a light, the check engine light came on (told her to go to advance and have them pull the code in the am) and it just started to idle high and low. Now yesterday her step dad changed the spark plugs which he bought from advance but didnt gap them since he said they come gapped for the specific vehicle u asked for... could that be it? OH and to top it off the window came off the ****in track... this car is almost about to get blown!

Is the car an auto? These cars are dog **** slow with an auto. The surging idle is likely a vacuum leak of some sort. Tell her not to beat on the car if she wants that engine to last, they do not like abuse. As far as the window thing, my car does that every now and then, don't know why and its annoying to have to fix.

Nah, the car is a manual... I know for a fact she doesnt drive crazy in it because she is preg LOL... but hopefully i can have her pull up the code when she wakes up so everyone can chime in then.... I'm thinkin it could be the gap on the plugs or i need to change that wiring all together!

how many miles on the vehicle? this is a shot in the dark but the clicking sound you might be hearing might be a crack exhaust manifold and you probably can't see it cause the heatshield is covering it. try checking it out

164,000mi right now. I know the exhaust has a leak in it. I dont know if the manifold does sounds like its coming more from the back side. I ordered a set of headers, cat, and new exhaust so hopefully that will eliminate more noise and we can pin point. I got a really good quote from a honda only shop to do a valve adjustment so maybe they can look at it also. Anymore help would be appreciated!

b16aek smart man LOL... so the problem ended up being the Idle Control System. The guy said it could either be the idle control valve or idle speed regulator. P0505 Idle Control System Malfunction IS THE ERROR!
