Default 98 Civic EX idling difficulty !!Help!!

Hey guys i'm derek i drive a 98 civic ex, 5spd, with a D16y8, completely stock minus an AEM short ram intake.

For about 3 weeks my civic has been idling oddly.
After its warmed up and the car is in motion i will put in the clutch to coast and the RPMs will stay stuck at 1.5 - 2 and i have to slightly rev the motor to "un-stick" it.

When i am stopped the RPMs will again stay stuck at 1.5 - 2, but only for about 5 seconds before dropping almost to zero.

On rare occasion the motor will idle normally (700-900 RPMs) and it will be fine. but this is only when it is not moving.

i'm not sure which diriection to go. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

thanks

You can also check/clean your IACV(Idle Air Control Valve). This usually in my experiacne won't cause the idle to drop will low but rather cause the engine RPMs to surge. Say from 1000 to 2000, etc and just back and forth. It still wouldn't hurt to check it.

Its on the back of the Intake Manifold Plenum held on with two 12mil bolts and has 2 coolant lines going to it. Take it off and clean the mesh screen good with brake cleaner and a tooth brush, etc.

Can't hurt anyways to do it and then you pretty much take it off the list as a suspect problem.

Your throttle cable may be adjusted too tightly. There should be 3/8" to 1/2" of slack/free play.
