98 Civic EX AT fuel economy
Hello!
I'm getting an average of around 27 MPG. I'm thinking it should be better, as it was getting low 30s when I bought it. I drive fairly conservatively 'cuz the tires (Les Schwab cheap tires) that are still on it aren't that great.
So back when I did the tune up (cap/rotor, plugs, valve cover gasket) in July, I think I might have forgotten to connect something or maybe a brittle hose has cracked.
I'm wondering if there is something I might want to look for, or if there are any suggestions.
Thanks!
SC

Make sure timing on distributor is where it should be.
Check for vacuum leaks if you think you split a hose. Look over your work and make sure you're not missing anything.
Check tire pressures and make sure each is inflated fully.

10% decrease in fuel efficiency, started (I'm assuming) about the time the weather got cold. My money is on under-inflated tires.

As well as colder air means more fuel in general, longer in open loop and even in closed loop more fuel for the denser air.
Fuel economy always goes down in the winter.

Maybe start looking for better tires?
a side from the regular tune up and everything perform normal, there is not much else you can do.
i would join the ecomodder site and see if they can offer more insight.

Re: 98 Civic EX AT fuel economy
I used a Standard Motors cap and rotor, NGK V Power plugs, and NGK plug wires.
I gaped the plugs to 1.1 mm.
