98 Civic DX Gauge Swap Info
I'm new here and a new owner of a Honda. I was wondering about gauge swapping options, if there are any, to the later Civic gauges. I have a 98 Civic DX with a 5-speed. Its so quiet compared to what I normally drive that its kind of difficult to get my bearings for shift points. I would like to switch to a better-lit dash hopefully with a tach, and I really liked the style in my buddies '01. If anyone has any info on this, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance, Sean...

you can put a 96-00 ex or si in easy, simple plug and play. i dont even know if later yr ones even carry the same shape, which i highly doubt i know 03+ doesnt so you would have a lot of modding to do

As hatchboy said, you can easily swap in one from 96-00. Later years are shaped differently so it would require quite a bit of modification to make it look nice in your dash. Your best bet is to look around at local junkyards for a cluster from an ex or si. You can use ebay, but they're usually quite high ($100+). I got a cluster for my 95 out of a junkyard for $20.

Awesome, so if I found a factory set of gauges from a '00 EX like in the attached image, that there is a pigtail behind my current cluster for the tach? This would be perfect as long as it really is a plug and play setup. I don't want to have to hack into any wires at all... Thanks for your help!

All ek cluster are plug and play. The clutsrer pictured above though is from an automatic though, i wouldn't use that.
My car is a 96 CX hatch. I bought a jdm civic type r cluster, it took 10 mins to change it over, no mods needed

If you do swap a 96-00 EX cluster, you can switch your Original speedometer with the one on the new cluster that has the tach to keep your original miles. Idk if that was mentioned.

ok, i have a 98 civic dx automatic (doesnt come with a tach) but i want one. so let me get this clear. all i need is a cluster from ex(has to be automatic?) or si, take out the old cluster, and install the new one in by connecting the same wire/connectors to the new cluster??

The auto and manual both work with either transmission. If you have an auto you won't have the PRND lights, and you may not want them there with a manual, but it'll all work.
