You can modify the spline part on the back of the steering wheel, but it looks like a bitch to do it even though some people have successfully pulled it off. Just get a CTR wheel instead, straight drop in.

Yeah, I've heard that you CAN do it but it's not worth it when you can just pick up the exact same CTR wheel and have it bolt right in.

CTR steering wheels have finally become more difficult to find now. Up until a year ago, there's always been about 5-7 listings at any one time on Ebay. Right now there's only 1 listing on Ebay.
I'm glad I was able to ****** up a mint condition CTR wheel when I did back then. The wheel has been in storage in Japan most of its life. There wasn't even 1 scratch on it when I got it.
By far it's one of my favorite mods on the car. The steering feel definitely changed for the better because the rim is thicker. Also, the overall diameter is smaller than the bus-size stock wheel.

And the ones up on eBay are usually in pretty bad condition I've noticed. Like you, I snatched up a mint condition CTR wheel about a year and half ago off a friend who had sold his car. I'd have to agree though, one of the best mods I did was the CTR wheel - it feels so much better than the stock SiR wheel.
