97civic d16y7 with y8 head oil pressure light flickers on sometimes at stopping..
and sometimes while driving, oils fine, i was thinking maybe oil pressure switch?
i know that cylinder 2 has low compression, i just bought this hatch and but of course with all used cars am discovering its flaws, however upon the matter of the oil light flickering the only thing i can think of is either the oil pressure switch or oil pump any ideas?

whats ur idle at? is it steady or go up and down alil bit? you can bump ur idle to keep it up alil bit. im sure changing the oil to something thicker will keep it up as well.

oil pressure switch might be faulty, but i'd be suprised if it was bad. really the only way to know for sure what's going on is to hook up an oil pressure gauge to see what kinda psi you're actually getting.

Does your idle dive real low when coming to a stop? My y8 does it to me but i run a gauge instead of the light so i never have to worry about it. If that's not the problem, I'd say it's the pressure switch, like all parts it can go bad, but they are cheap at the dealer, I paid 8 bucks when i used to run the pressure switch

In addition, the safe and smart thing to do at this point is to measure the oil pressure. If you avoid doing this too long, the engine may be destroyed.

Yeah i never said that the idle dropping low means the pressure switch is bad, I was just stating that my car does the same thing but mine is self inflicted from me doing things to the car that honda never meant to be done to it '

When my Civic had some idle problems and it was really low, I never had the oil light on. Really, you need to stick a real oil pressure gauge to get a true reading.

This was the beginning of the end of a d15b8 when this started happening to me.

I fail to understand the logic here. Why not first fix the low idle, which might result in low oil pressure that is being detected by a good oil pressure switch?

a gauge is much safer than a idiot light as i call it, that way you can monitor the oil pressure at all times and if you do have low oil pressure, this could save your crank which would save you money and time by only having to replace bearings instead of the crank

that idiot light only comes on when its below 5psi ...owch... kinda too late by then wouldn't ya think
