Default '97 Si coupe fuel economy

I just picked up a 1997 Si for a winter beater, it's a little rough around the edges but I'm more concerned about fuel economy. It's got some intake attached to the stock intake hose, and a header hooked up to factory exhaust, that's it for mods. I'm only getting about 370km from full before the fuel light comes on. Is this normal? I could get about 550km in my EF hatch before I'd fill it up.

Air filter is clean/brand new, and the spark plugs look good, light tan with no deposits. VTEC works properly too.

Thanks in advance.

How are your tire pressures? Where is your idle? How do you drive it? So many different things go into fuel economy.

Tire pressures are all 35psi, idle is 600RPM warm, and I drive it like a white man, no harder than my EF.

I found my mileage improved when I replaced the stock intake resonator and all associated plumbing - the car had been hit on the pass side and damaged these parts. With my 96 US EX, I'm getting 37 mpg with no ethanol, about 315-320 miles on a tank. I don't run it totally out of fuel, just down to 1/8 or so. Keeping it out of the Vtec range can only help your mileage.

What? Sence when are d16y8's not known for gas milage?
those are just ratings, they have been known to do a lot better.

Have you check ignition timing?

For people not in canda he's getting about 23mpg

Is this on the highway or street? Is it a auto?

No I haven't checked ignition timing. Assuming it's 10*BTDC? It's city driving and manual trans.
