97 HX... questions.
Complete noob here... I know nothing... flame on!
Just purchased a 97 HX coupe three weeks ago... The most (apparently needed) upgrades are 'brakes' and the need for a rear stabilizer bar (front plow when pushing it..). Recommendations? Should I upgrade the front disk / caliper or convert the rear to disk? Or both? Is a rear stabilizer worth it?
Engine: If I understand correctly I have a Vtec E... ( http://www.jdmfan.com/index.php?info...specs_6g_civic --- THIS INFO CORRECT?). Worth modding? Or would a swap be better?
Thanks in advance to all who reply w/ useful info...

iHaz un swapo! Do a swap.
and a rear anti-sway bar is definitely worth it. i run a 22 mm rear Progress with my OEM front one, and it made a world of difference.

Re: 97 HX... questions. (flip b18b)
Thanks flip... Swap is the last item on my short list
Till then I just keep it in 2nd... between 3.5K and 7...
Brakes really seem to be weak point... Any suggestions?
And... for a quick and easy swap - Would a lightweight flywheel help the (put it nice) lackluster low-end? Not worth it?
Thanks again...

but n e ways, get a rear sway bar, just make sure that if you get a bar as large as 22 mm, or so, get a reinforcement kit, or you'll be sorry from the subframe tearing.

Dont waste your money on the motor if you plan on swapping. Save all you can for your swap. upgrade suspension because no mater what motor you have that will help out a lot.
Funny you mention an HX there is this guy in town who drives a silver one. he painted all his **** blue interior and mirrors. looks funny plus he goes around talking how fast his **** is to all the females. LOL My friends SOHC Vtec with injen intake took his *** by about 3 car lenghts, he said he didnt get a good launch all 3 times they raced. the race was over by 2nd gear. LOL he looks funny also. RICEed out JDM HX. HAHA Dont get me started on how I took him while i was spinning out in first.
MAD JDM props to the HX. Nice swap material though. So in the end save for a swap for hevens sake. HX = economical. not fast

I would upgrade all corners to Si brakes. You will then have to get bigger wheels, but then again, your stock wheels are in big demand. You could probably get almost 300 with good tires for them on ebay. This would be enough to buy some Si or GSR wheels on HT.

Thanks for the input guys... I'm beginning to realize this is a capital project...
Maybe a couple of options for my existing engine (D16Y5 VTEC-E ???)... or is simply not worth it?
Thanks again

Re: 97 HX... questions. (spl_nut)
ok i dont think you know what you have
I currently have a d16y8 which is a sohc vtec EX engine. the engine that you have is the d16y5 vtec e. i dont know if you know this but you have roller rockers in your head. that means high revs
if you put an ex ecu in there you could rev to 7000 or an si ecu and rev to 8000 and above. raise the compression in that engine and you could push some horse power, or you could put a 55 shotor more of nitrous on there or get a turbo def. the B series engines are overrated, lets see your paying 4000 dollars for what 40 more horse power
prose

roller rockers are dope! I got some in my 350. Doesn't mean you can rev any higher, just means less friction and no wear. Very efficient though.

you cant use an si ecu-- wrong pinouts, but you can use a gs-r ecu. i put my gs-r ecu in a girlfriends hx and let me tell you-- that D16Y5 comes alive after 6500 RPM. its torquey as hell until 8300 RPM. trust me. Id keep the Y5- nobody would ever know........

Re: 97 HX... questions. (Emerica)
ok you can rev to at least 7000 if you get an ex ecu. and vtec will engage and not vtec e. then get a vafc and have vtec engage at 5000 or so and your car will be a lot better than what it is now
and i still dont understand why 350 people still come on the import boards and try to give information to import guys when a push rod engine is nothing like tuning an overhead cam engine

Now I'm confused... keep the existing engine? and redline already starts @ 7200.
I think I need to read-up a bit more...
Thanks to everyone who's posted.

-flame retardant suit on-
Know the sound of a Alfa Veloce or GTV gearing-down behind you?
that's the sound I'm looking for...
What cat-back (or axle-back)?
Stupid... I know. But... I'm me.

Had my head up my ***... Redline is @ 6800.
Tried searching... regardless of what I typed in - nothing came back.
Lowering springs... Nopi has em starting @ $100. Would I notice a difference between an inexpensive set ( http://www.nopionline.com/index.cfm?...ering&vaffid=0 ) and a set that costs $250+ ?
I did read RiceD16's thread... and coilovers are NOT an option.
