Depends on what you want to do with it.

This is an incredibly general/vague question.

hx's are nice- i have a 97 hx. with an ex tranny, it can be just about as fast as an ex, and it makes nice tq when boosted too. how many miles are on the one u are looking at?

downfalls:
-stock tranny is real long
-need to use the hx ecu cause of the vtec-e(obd2a in your case)
-if swapping, you need to convert from 5 to 4 wire o2 sensors
-there might be a few small ones i am overlooking
-the 96-98's have those god aweful red/orange tails

pros:
-pretty light at 2339lbs
-in stock form it should get 40+mpg (i can get 40 with a broken o2 sensor and an ex tranny)
-no extra vtec lobe lets the car take advantage of the long (comparatively) stroke lenght to make fair torque when f/i
-more power options then a dx
-rear decklid cut for 6x9's (at least mine is)
-compatable with many eg/dc parts too
-again, many more depending on what you are looking to do with it

They are probably the best you can get for a D-series motor... shorter gears= Faster acceleration times.
PS turn off your CAPS YO!

That would serve no purpose whatsoever, other than making your car run poorly.

The hx had a cvt trans. It was only avail in the cvt(auto) or so i thought. I thought that is why they were so fuel efficient. please correct me if im wrong

I have a CX now....the gears are horrible and worse than the HX tranny. The HX is going to be slower than an EX with a difference of about 15 HP....do some research, it helps a lot before buying into a new car.

no im sure the hx is a 5-speed ive test drove it :-D, and holly, ive done my research, its long gears, but i was asking if it was the same transmission, simple yes or no question. he said the hx is just about as fast as an ex if u put a ex tranny in a hx. the hx is lighter than a ex so ya know, power vs weight ratio

heh consider yourself corrected. My 2k hx was good. now its swapped and boosted and its even better (except i do sort of miss the MPG).

HX is good , 2nd to the lightest car you can found from Honda, Since there's no moon roof....A/C optional, VTEC is present, less hassle if you do a swap for any B series. look at it as a Civic Type - R and not a INTEGRA Type-R

I dont even know if Id go that far. If you look at it from a tuners point of view the hx isnt nearly as heavy. is only about 10hp difference between the two, hx has allow wheels from the factory, and hx (not a tuning aspect) gets better gas mileage. All the ex has over it is a few hp, a moonroof, and for aesthetics it has paint matched mouldings and mirrors. You be the judge.

You'll be hard-pressed to name something that's compatible with the y8 that's not compatible with the y5.

hx's came in the cvt auto, or the 5 speed. They have pw pl ps and ac. It is better than a dx cause it has a tach and the above mentioned. Also my friend has one with i.h.e and a crank pully. He hangs with ex's all day. and has spanked a 1.8t jetta. they are overalll great cars. Its like an ex with out a sunroof or y8.

And better gas mileage.
