97 Honda Civic noise
Hello, I have a 97 Civic 4D LX, automatic, non vtec with 125,000 miles on it. While driving today, I heard a weird noise that I have not heard before. The noise was a high pitched screeching sound, but was not the sound that a belt makes. There was not a pattern of when the noise was made and when it was not made. All of the gauges look good and the noise does not seem to depend on the load we place on the car through radio/lights. Does anyone have any idea about what the noise could be? Thanks for any help!

It can be 1000 things. You gotta be more specific were you pressing the brakes? A rock stuck behind the dust shield and rotor? It can really be anything.

The noise is a high pitched whistle that occurs mostly around 2300rpm and it sounds like its coming from the alternator or power steering pump or something in that general area. The alternator was replaced 4,000 miles ago from Autozone and a new water pump and timing belt was put on about the same time. Thanks for the replies.
