mine does the same thing in 2nd. sometimes when you accelerate when you start to go up a hill too? i took it to the tranny shop and they told me it needs a new 2nd. also the gear bearing could be bad. but most likely its the whole gear.

they quoted me 1700 for a full rebuild, orrrr, 1900-2000 for a competition rebuild. but i just bought a rebuilt z6 tranny for 300 bucks with paperwork those prices will differ from shop to shop though.

Re: 97 honda civic ex pops out of gear
rofl $1700 for a transmission rebuild. PASS.
If you're wanting to do a motor build, turbo or not, you need to learn how to get your hands dirty. Start off with the transmission. If the fluid replacement doesn't solve the problem, and if all of your mounts are OK, call up the guys at Synchrotech and get your bearings, seals, synchros, and gears from them. Do the rebuild yourself.
