97 Honda Civic Ex Emissions Problem
I'm having problems passing emissions with the big three EVAP, CAT and O2. I did everything in this thread (https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...2885062&page=2) and am grateful for all the advice.
My car is ready if I don't turn off the engine, when I do, they're not. Pep Boys kept telling me to drive it and it's been almost 2K of driving now. Something is wrong.
I got a new mechanic, new cat conv., new O2 sensor, new battery and all the fuses were checked. He's suggesting a new used computer. Sound like a good idea or is it something that I've missed?
Thank you in advance.

Re: 97 Honda Civic Ex Emissions Problem
Thank you for responding. There are no codes registering. I drove the car around today (new battery Friday) before I took it. Everything was set to ready, he showed me the monitor then we shut off the car - the emissions codes weren't ready on restart. The engine light isn't blinking five times either - never did.
He checked both the backup fuse under the hood and all under the dash. He's standing next to my car scratching his head but he's all I can afford. He replaced battery and O2 sensor. I don't know what else to do?

Voltage test the installed 7.5A Back Up fuse. If it has voltage on both test tabs, then check whether this voltage reaches pin C10 in ECU connector C.

Re: 97 Honda Civic Ex Emissions Problem
Thank you, I will ask tomorrow. I'm in Chicago and failed emissions 4 times - I passed twice before. Last summer, the CAT was replaced by Pep Boys then the alternator died in January. I had a tune-up and everything then.
Emissions told me to take it back to Pep Boys and they kept telling me to drive it. 2K miles later, I'm still failing. I go down the street to New Windy City and that mechanic is out to take advantage. He said it was the O2 sensor $120 then said it was the thermostat but I asked him to check the fuses and battery. He said my 16 month old battery was weak $120 more - now he wants a computer for more $$. When he puts that in, it'll be something else to make me his daily customer. It's the shameful shameless way some mechanics take advantage of vulnerable women that give them bad names.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I appreciate you responding. If you can think of anything else, please let me know - I have no problem going to either of these places for help.
