97 Honda Civic DX Hatchback Failed Smog Test
Hello,
From the look at the picture below, would anyone be able to tell me what could or is the problem why the car failed? The guy who did it told me it's the catalytic converter, and I'm just trying to double check without pulling it in into a mechanic.
I bought the car off a private seller that acquired the vehicle from a tow yard through a lien sale. I'm currently trying to get the license plates for it, so I need smog.
After I bought the car, an oil change and transmission fluid change was done, new air filter, I have new spark plugs waiting to be installed. The A/C compression belt and alternator belt had a high pitch which was going to get replaced, but the sound went away after some WD-40.
I'm not sure what the maintenance or history of all the parts, so I decided to just replace certain things as they may be pretty old with OEM honda parts.
I am going to do the belts replacement, and am looking into the timing belt + water pump replaced too.
I'd just like to know what my next move would be.
Please and thank you.

Elevated numbers on all three pollutants usually does mean that the cat is worn out.
This is assuming the car runs OK and the spark timing is set correctly. Don't trust the inspection station to say that timing is OK, also check it yourself.
