a '97 civic ex is equipped with a 1.6l sohc vtec engine. it is an engine worth holding on to...im wishing that i wouldve held on to mine. search around. you will find plenty of d16y8 civics in this forum with boost. just because your valve cover doesnt say Vtech....I mean VTEC, does not mean that your car is not equipped with vtec...which it is, or at least it should. good luck and welcome to h-t, noob!

go drive your car and take the rpm's to 5500+..you should hear a change in noise...that would be vtec

All Ex's have vtec, and you can make plenty of power with the D16Y8, especially with a turbo.
Otherwise, you can go with B16A(2500), B16B(4500), B18B(2000), B18C(3200), B18C-R(4500).
