Default 97 EK9 lighter than 98+ EK9

I noticed on edmunds that the 1997 civic hatchback (cx or dx) is lighter than the 98 and newer civic hatcbacks. Does anyone know why this might be?

newer cars tend to have more features. The CRX in 1988, the HF, weighed 1819lbs. NO one could make a US car for that weight anymore that could possibly sell. side airbags, ABS, TCS, EBD, all that **** adds. I think in 99, they added "air injection" and thats at LEAST one more hose, plug, and wire, so it will be heaveir. dont knopw by how much, but im sure it is heaveir.
