What ECU is the car using? Does the CEL(check engine light) work, if so do you have any CELs? Is it a 5 speed or an automatic? Are there any mods done to the car?

In the Honda community everyone knows EK refers to 6th gen Civics, EG refers to 5th gen, EF 4th gen, etc. It might not be technically correct, but everyone knows what he is talking about.

He said the CEL light was broken. I would start with a code reader. Your CEL might not work but you want to read the codes that are stored, if any. AutoZone or any auto store will read the codes off your car for free.

Assuming you have the correct ECU, and the wiring is all correct for the swap, I would start at the basics. Check and make sure the timing is set correctly. You also need to check compression. If compression and timing are good, I would look at the O2 sensor because you mentioned it chugging and jerking at lower RPMs. A bad O2 sensor causes the ECU to send extra lean/rich mixtures causing misfires and loss of power. And it also explains why the car runs fine for 20 mins in the cold, because during warmup the car is in open-loop mode, ignoring the O2 sensor. The way to test the O2 sensor is to simply unplug it. If the car runs fine with it unplugged after it's warmed up, you can assume your O2 sensor is bad.

If all of the above checks out, and the car is still having problems, I would start with a basic tune-up before spending money/time anywhere else. Cap/rotor could cause the problems you are mentioning. Do a full-tune up.

I missed the CEL light being broken part. OP swap a bulb from elsewhere in the cluster to the CEL, check the CEL codes as shown in the FAQs of this sub forum.

And yes chassis codes matter, there have been a few instances this week in these sub forums where chassis codes would have helped the OP out quicker instead of other having to ask for more information.

Example of this, what engine does an EK coupe come with?

He said EK hatch, and we can assume its a US car because US 6th gen hatches only came with a D16Y7. So giving the specific chassis code really doesn't help.

Identifying chassis codes may help OP later identifying problems, and I also helped by providing some more items that could help diagnose the problem.

Also in the rules sticky identifying these things is required.

Sounds like someone might have a bad ECU.
