97 EK coupe Build Thread lots of pics
Ok so since my brother moved to Florida with the red EK and it got stolen he picked up a 95 325i and moved back home (1 1/2 years later).
When he came home he decided he didn't want the Bimmer any more and he wanted to get a replacement for his lost EK.
So we found an awesome trade... or what we thought was an awesome trade.
the car is a 97 dx coupe
it came with a semi-built (poorly built) GSR with a b16a2 trans and 2000 type R front knuckles and rear trailing arms with 2000 type r 15" gunmetal 5 lugs. It also had kyb adjustables and ground control coilovers.
It seemed like a great car with awesome mods but when we went to pick it up it was a nightmare. The car was not running and the entire harness was a complete nightmare.
so I modified my DA's distributor to get it running and I tore the harness out and re-wired everything.
from there we started cleaning everything and getting it road worthy.
The DC sports headers that were on it were smashed and there was a nasty exhaust leak.
So I sourced a replacement dc 4-1 header for $60 (brand new in the box)
and I got some heat wrap and we swapped the header and got the exhaust welded up.
That problem was solved
Then we got to work on the plethora of leaky seals on the gsr. upon removing the valve cover we found one of the cam cap bolts was broken in the head so we got out the drill and the bolt extractor.
What we found under the valve cover made us happy though
Type R cams
full skunk2 valve train and a ported and polished head.
Repaired all of the seals. yay no more leaks!!!
I traded my stock DA seats for some DND racing seats. I removed the air bags and got a carbon fiber air bag tray and a gauge cluster gauge pod. I also removed the type r boot and shift **** and installed an oem DA **** and boot... all of this was done for FREE!!
I also picked up a ek hatch type r style rear lip and modified it.
OH and we traded the oem itr wheels for some ek9 white type r's
I will have a lot more up later I just have to sign off for a few...
so a few current photos.

Re: 97 EK coupe Build Thread lots of pics
Yeah i know but I couldn't beat the price and we didn't have to really modify the rest of the exhaust. Once we sort out the rest of our issues we will be installing a skunk2 megapower header and a full 60mm exhaust. But for now it is not damaged and there are no leaks so we are happy for awhile.
As far as future mods we will be getting new innovative mounts an asr rear subframe brace and powder coating the blox rear control arms and the itr calipers. You will see the color when it's done.
I just picked up some energy suspension sway bar bushings that I will be installing tomorrow.
I also got another 97 ek coupe same color that we have been swapping body parts off of.
So far we have swapped the passenger door and the trunk. Tomorrow we are going to swap the driver door and make new keys lol.
I will also be doing custom red door panels to match the red carpet and I will be installing my black da rear seats to match the new seats.
I will update tomorrow with pics so stay tuned!

okay so I am almost done with the door panels... and I installed a a/f gauge that I had laying around my garage.
currently I am looking for an s2k cluster so we can finally have a tach and stop using the vtec controller as on lol.
I will have pics up later today.
And I will post as many as I can

Re: 97 EK coupe Build Thread lots of pics
Thanks but we went with the white ctrs because my brother wants to make this a ctr styled coupe. and by me everyone has the gunmetals I personally have had 2 sets and this is my first set of the original white ctr's. they have to get repainted/touched up in a few spots but I like them. I think it set the car off for now.
as far as the interior goes it is going to stay at its current set up except for the steering wheel for now... it has red carpet and I just did the red door panels I installed the dnd seats last weekend put in the carbon fiber air bag delete tray put in the ctr cup holder with my DA shift **** and boot and put in the gauge cluster gauge pod with an oil pressure gauge and an air/fuel ration meter. we are just trying to find a 5 bolt hub so we can use one of the steering wheels that I have. as far as future mods go my brother wants to make the interior black with the red carpet and door panels.
I am very sorry about not posting pics I have been very busy but they will be going up as soon as possible.
stay tuned...
BTW My DA is getting its new heart next week when I come back from NC.

No those are not rpf1s and those wheels cannot go on the civic. The civic is 5 lug my integra is 4 lug. I have also taken enough from my da to get the civic on the road. The last thing I would give it is any of my suspension setup unless I have replacements, which I don't.

Re: 97 EK coupe Build Thread lots of pics
okay so I finished the door panels.
as you can see I am in desperate need of a hub for my steering wheel lol... it is the only thing really ruining the interior.
lol this was the best I could do as far as a full view of the interior...
I don't have photoshop or a camera that doesn't double as a phone lol

Re: 97 EK coupe Build Thread lots of pics
I posted this same topic in another thread but I haven't gotten much help on finding just a 5 bolt hub for the ek.
any way thanksgiving was good, just watched katt williams.
Tomorrow I am going to try and finish up the two swaps on the DA's and then hopefully find a buyer for my other ek coupe.
well I will get updates up asap.
until then check out this blog if you would like

So the EK is on hold for now...
my brother got himself a 9-5 and a girlfriend so he has the car all the time lol
and I am also putting all my time in my DA and my girls DA. I promise that I will post more pics and updates of new stuff as often as I can...
I will probably only be doing work on the civic on the weekends...

Re: 97 EK coupe Build Thread lots of pics
so there has been a whole lot of nothing going on with this car except driving it.
oh wait I installed a brand new AEM air filter lol
We have been working on figuring out what color we are going to paint the engine bay.
So far the thoughts are white for the bay with a purple valve cover and purple mounts with the intake manifold powder coated black. If we do that scheme we are going to powder coat the brake calipers purple and get the rear lower control arms and asr brace in purple and powder coat the wheels their original white.
all opinions are welcomed but honestly I don't care if you don't like the idea lol
its not your car. So if you want to hate go and hate but just know that all you will be doing is keeping my thread at the top lmao.
so the best thing to do if you hate it is to not say anything cause all publicity is good.
But I say hate away. I am going to be starting the paining project this week.

Re: 97 EK coupe Build Thread lots of pics
I tucked the brake booster vacuum line and bracket
and I picked up some new wheels for it. they will be on as soon as we get some tires.
now here are some pics
I know I know the wheels need to be cleaned and so does the car but it is winter and its cold outside.
I'll probably be cleaning it and detailing it tomorrow
more coming later
peace
